INIFD launches overseas study programme

      19 Mar, 2016

Giving its fashion students an intimate global experience with fashion trends, INIFD has begun its international campus in London recently. Among the first batch of overseas students was one of the students from the Amritsar campus, Tanya Suchu. The 21-year-old budding designer, who previously got selected for the LFW Gen Next category, has returned from the one-month residential study programme, where she visited fashion houses like Yves Saint Laurent and rubbed shoulders with some of the best celebrity stylists on the global fashion map.

“It was a unique opportunity as we only study and implement these ideas on a limited scale back in the city. London is one of the most fashionable cities in the world and to get international exposure is something that stays with you for life,” said Tanya. One among the 20 students from various INIFD campuses in India, who worked with a team of celebrity stylists like Joseph Anthony Tronka, Tanya says that international fashion is all about styling. “You can wear the simplest of clothes and street brands, but if you style it correctly, the look could be upgraded to high-end fashion. We learnt a lot of styling tips and fundas during our stay. Also, Indian designers fare quite well in the international markets, given our colourful embroideries and ethnic designs,” she says.

Meanwhile, INIFD campus in the city also hosted a team of designers from London, who were on a tour to visit all the INIFD campuses in the country. The two-member team comprised celebrity stylist Joseph Anthony Tronka, who is also a faculty member at the London campus and noted interior designer Sara Corker. “The students got a chance to interact and discuss various fashion themes for the season with the two designers. A special lecture on global fashion trends and the scope of celebrity styling was also held during the one-day trip,” said Neelu Gauri, head, INIFD, Amritsar.
